#ArtTalk with celebrated artist SC Suman

Tired of hearing about corruption, lack of good governance, unemployment and prolonged political instability? For one, I am.

Therefore, in this episode of #SoftTalk, we talk with celebrated artist SC Suman, who has won national and international acclaim for his sublime, intricate artworks based on the #Mithila tradition, thinking that it will be good for peace of mind you, me and a maximum number of people out there. We talk about the ongoing environmental devastation brought about in Nepal by mindless development activities carried out by not giving due consideration to the fragile environment of the Tarai, Hills and the Himalayas, with specific focus on possible environmental consequences of government plans to mine the #Chure hills and build another international airport in #Nijgadh by chopping off a large number of trees. SC Suman shows us the consequences of destruction of the Chure and deforestation at Nijgadh and other places through his artworks. Airplanes dropping oxygen cylinders -- with the pictures of donors (ministers?) affixed to the cylinders -- via parachutes is one of those heart-touching pictures. What else can one expect save an unlivable when our ministers, planners, policy wonks are bent on attacking the fragile environment ruthlessly in the name of development? About the artist SC Suman has been in this journey of arts for more than 35 years. A Bachelor of Science from LN Mishra University, Darbhanga, Suman has received textile designer and lab training from Mumbai. He has taken part in several solo/group art exhibitions and worked as curator for a number of national/international art festivals/exhibitions. He is also associated with several art institutions like Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, Siddhartha Art Foundation Nepal, Shivata Love Foundation, Nepal Lalit Kala Sangam, Chitramsha Sewa Parishad, Chetana Samrakshyan Pratisthan Nepal and Rita Memorial Trust.
